In-Depth Verification of a Numerical Model for an Axisymmetric RC Dome

The designers of civil engineering structures often have to face the problem reliability complex computational analyses performed most with Finite Element Method (FEM). Any assessment such is difficult and can only be approximate. present paper puts forward a new method verification validation structural upon an illustrative example dome strengthened by circumferential ribs along upper lower edges. Four systems were used, namely Abaqus, Autodesk Robot, Dlubal RFEM, FEAS. Different models also analyzed—two-dimensional (2D) three-dimensional (3D) ones using continuum, bar, shell finite elements. results static (with two kinds load—self-weight load distributed ring) modal are presented. A detailed comparison between systems’ models’ predictions was made. In general, spatial predicted less stiff behavior analyzed than planar models. good agreement different obtained for first natural frequency axisymmetric eigenmodes (except from Robot system). presented approach shell–bar effectively applied designers.
